Amitābha is the main figure of worship in Pure Land Buddhism and is believed to save all living things while residing in the pure Land of Bliss in the west. The one is often depicted in standing posture because Amitayurdhyana sutra says that Amitābha appears standing in the air. The mudra (hand posture) of the statue is called "Raigō-in".
