Gusoku information

Incense, flower and light have been three basic offering materials to Buddha since ancient time. Gusoku are Buddhist altar supplies for offering the three and others. The radical meaning of gusoku is "well-equipped".
Mitsu-gusoku ("mithsu" means three) is comprised of an incense burner, a vase and a candlestick.
In Japan offerings are not only for Buddha but also the dead of the family.

• An incense burner is placed on the center.
  When burning long incense sticks in a small burner, the ash may fall out of it. In this case, break the stick into two.
• A flower vase is placed on the left side.
  Recently, artificial or preserved flowers are sometimes offered as alternatives to fresh flowers.
• A candlestick is placed on the right side.
  Be careful not to tip over a candlestick or light a candle on and near anything flammable. Make sure a candle is securely fixed. If a candle is loose because its hole is too big, twist foil around the spike of the candlestick and make it thick.

仏の供養は古来インドより、香、華、燈が基本となっています。三具足はそれら三つのための供養具で、香炉、花立、燈台より成ります。ここに飲食器を加えたり、焼香用の香炉を加えたり、花立や燈台を対にしたりして、供養具は五具足、七具足のように増えていきます。三具足の場合、一般的な配置は左に華、右に燈、中央に香となります。

• 小さい香炉に長い線香を立てると灰が外に落ちますので、その場合は線香を折り、短くしてご使用ください。
• 花立には造花やプリザーブドフラワー等を供えていただいても構いません。
• 灯立にロウソクを立てる際には、倒れたりしないよう十分に注意し、可燃性のものを近づけないでください。 ろうそくの穴が大きすぎて灯立に合わない場合は、針 (ピン) にアルミホイルを巻いて太くするなどしてから刺し、しっかり固定してください。
